A good deck starts underneath the boards.

Jobs we can look at

  • New timber decks
  • New composite decks
  • Replacement boards and complete deck rebuilds
  • Repairs where the existing structure is still sound

What we check first

  • Posts, bearers, joists and connections
  • Ground clearance, drainage and ventilation
  • Stairs, edges, access and awkward details
  • Material choice, finish and ongoing maintenance

What affects the cost of a deck?

The price depends on the deck size, the frame underneath, stairs, height, access, demolition and whether you choose timber or composite.

Timber gives you natural grain and colour but needs an agreed finishing and maintenance plan. Composite needs less routine finishing, but the product, colour and direct sun still affect the choice and price.

Send the rough dimensions and photos of the deck area. If you are replacing an old deck, include the posts, bearers and joists where you can.

We’ll tell you what can stay, what needs replacing and what is included in the quote.

For a quote, send photos or plans with the job details. Read about material deposits, labour and progress payments. If the deck meets an exterior wall that also needs work, see our cladding and re-cladding service.

Questions about timber and composite decking.

Should I choose timber or composite decking?

Depends on the look you want, how much sun the deck gets, the maintenance you'll do and the budget. Timber gives you grain and colour, but it needs a finishing plan. Composite needs less routine finishing, though the product, colour and direct sun still change how it feels and what it costs.

Can you repair my old deck?

Possibly, if the posts, bearers, joists and connections are sound enough to keep. We look underneath before we recommend a repair, new boards or a rebuild. On older Fremantle decks the frame underneath is usually the deciding bit.

Does composite decking get hot?

It can, depending on the product, the colour and how much direct sun it gets. A dark board in western sun will feel hotter than a lighter one with some shade. Check the current product info and how you'll actually use the deck before you choose.

What maintenance does a timber deck need?

Timber needs a finishing plan and recoating if you want it to keep its colour. How often depends on the species, the finish and the weather it cops. Composite needs less of that, but it still needs cleaning and the right product for the site.

When should I ask for a quote?

As soon as you know roughly what you want. If you're aiming for summer, leaving it until summer usually makes the timing harder. Send the suburb, the rough size and photos, including the posts and joists if you're replacing an old one.

“If you're looking for a trady that does what he says he's going to do then you've found one. Kyle was straight up, got in and got it done, he even cleans up. Great communicator as is needs to be when renovating an 80 year old house when unforeseen circumstances pop up. Have had Elysium run two projects and no issue calling them when another arises. Highly recommend.”
