Old cladding rarely tells you the whole story.

Jobs we can look at

  • New external timber or fibre-cement cladding installation
  • Re-cladding on suitable existing homes
  • Cladding repairs where the surrounding wall is sound
  • Builder-led projects with a clearly defined carpentry scope

What we check first

  • Existing wall and framing condition
  • Windows, corners, penetrations and the number of cuts
  • Access, removal and disposal requirements
  • Painting, flashing and other trade responsibilities

What affects the cost of cladding?

Cladding cost depends on the wall area, whether you choose timber or fibre cement, access, removal and disposal, and how much cutting is needed around windows and corners. External wall cladding also needs the right preparation and detailing around openings. The condition of the wall behind the old cladding matters too.

Send photos of the full wall, including the corners and windows. If the job looks suitable, we’ll arrange a site visit before preparing a formal quote.

If removal exposes damaged battens or framing, we’ll show you what we found and agree on any extra work before we continue.

For a quote, send photos or plans with the job details. Read about material deposits, labour and progress payments. Structural repairs behind the cladding may need a separate steel and timber framing quote.

Questions about cladding and re-cladding.

Do you remove existing cladding?

Yes, when removal is in the quote. We check the material, the access and the wall behind it, because older Fremantle homes often hide tired battens or buckled walls once the boards come off. If we suspect asbestos, we don't remove it, but we can arrange a licensed specialist before we start.

Can you quote from photos?

Photos are enough to start. Send the full wall, the corners, the windows and the side access so we can give you a high-level estimate. A proper quote still usually needs a site visit, about 30 to 60 minutes, so we can see the cuts, the windows and the wall condition.

Who handles painting or finishing?

That's agreed before we start and written into the quote. We install timber, fibre-cement or composite cladding. Painting, sealing and some flashing often sit with another trade, and we say so up front.

Do you work on older Fremantle homes?

Yes, when the job suits us. Cottage re-clads around Fremantle are a regular one, and those walls can be twisted, out of square or hiding damage. We inspect what we can see, tell you what might change once the old cladding comes off, and only quote the carpentry we can do properly.

Do you remove asbestos?

No, we don't remove asbestos, but we can arrange a licensed contractor to identify and take it out. Once that's sorted, we quote the carpentry that follows: timber, fibre-cement or composite cladding, repairs, or a re-clad on a sound wall.

Why can the price change after the wall is opened?

The wall behind old cladding is the bit you can't fully see from the street. Taking it off can show damaged battens, wet framing or extra cuts around windows. If that happens, we stop, show you what we found and agree any extra work before we continue.

“If you're looking for a trady that does what he says he's going to do then you've found one. Kyle was straight up, got in and got it done, he even cleans up. Great communicator as is needs to be when renovating an 80 year old house when unforeseen circumstances pop up. Have had Elysium run two projects and no issue calling them when another arises. Highly recommend.”
